Speaker: Michael Chenery, Senior Color Scientist, THX

Color pipelines in post, VFX and animation facilities are in the early stages of a major makeover. New technologies – most notably the IIF ACES standards – are making it possible to move from the fairly restrictive but universal Rec 709 color gamut to a gamut that exceeds the capabilities of the human visual system. This new approach offers numerous benefits and also presents completely new challenges. Most facilities will not make a wholesale change to their systems. Mr. Chenery will discuss best practices for managing the migration to wide gamut pipelines cost effectively and how to avoid the biggest problems associated with this type of move.
